“ ‘What way has this shaped us?’ … This question is also institutionally important because it says, ‘What is the nature of that baton which we are passing on?’ “

‘It was a two mark question… didn’t know there was so much design, craftsmanship and such intricate labour behind this filler slab’ said one of the participants; surprised how the one line answer took more than one week’s prepration work.

‘Visualizing the concept of hourdi blocks was difficult to understand in the classroom, but working hands-on on-site provided clarity.’ said another.

This Pattarai with filler slab at Madipakkam offered understanding the concept and practicals.

The participants interacted with the craftsmen, engineers and architects on site to understand the details of construction and involved themselves in designing, marking and laying filler slabs on site; experiencing the relationship between drawing on paper and execution on site through the process.
