“Research is seeing what everybody else has seen and thinking what nobody else has thought.” – Albert Szent-Györgyi
With age, things not only acquire new textures, but also gather stories of people and find a place in people’s stories. The study emphasized on documenting the last remaining indigo name boards in the city, remnants from the British era. These boards are historical markers and they show how much a city has evolved over the years. The word “Madras” mentioned in the addresses of the boards make it very interesting. The research was also an initiative to instil a sense of pride in shop owners about the vintage nameboards they continue to retain.
