The Sitout at Kompally.

An opportunity knocked to explore designing with up-cycled materials and we choose to grab it.

4321,

fancy number in reality was the expense of the sit-out at Kompally.
Designing and executing the project was as interesting as the expenditure reads. We were assigned to design furniture for the sit-out of a residence.

Lampshades were planned to enhance the quality of light and wind-chime to add music to the breeze. Worn-out tires, bamboo from plants uprooted during one of the rains, plywood, jute and colourful yarn were fastened together in different concoctions.Considering the anthropometric requirements of the family members, two kinds of seating were designed.

Hands-on working with materials asked for a good understanding of its properties and lots of patience, it demanded of us to gain more knowledge. Making of the furniture was a joyful explorative process and we waited for its installation at site.

The evening of execution was of immense learning and fun too. We tried our first time-lapse video to document the execution, only to learn more of the technicalities required to achieve our required quality. But the transformation of the space was beautiful. Both friends and the generous rain added grace and complimented the occasion with their presence that evening.

We worked our way through, while warm lights from the bamboo shades lit the space as the dusk settled in.
